Photo a day - Pork city

Pork products are immensely popular in Italy, and certain towns are known for the high quality of their pork and salumi. The porchetta (roast baby pork) of Nemi and some of its neighboring towns is very well regarded. This shop in Nemi probably reaps the benefits of that fine reputation. Photo taken in February 2010.

Egypt vacation, part two

Where do they have the most flavorful fruits and vegetables? Egypt, apparently. Man, the veggies there are delicious! In Ghana we've gotten used to flavorless tomatoes, carrots and cucumbers, so we were blown away by the fantastic produce we ate in Egypt. The cucumbers were extra yummy, especially with the freshest feta cheese we had ever eaten.

Many locals here wear traditional clothes. This man's long shirt is called a galabiya. Looks comfy.

Street food

On the way back from Cape Coast going toward Accra, enterprising young men sell treats along the roadside.



This gentleman displays a cut-open roasted grasscutter, sort of a giant rat-type creature.
